Our History

On January 1, 2015, Veolia North America and Nassau County entered into a 20-year agreement for maintenance and operation of the County's sewer system. This is the largest public-private partnership in North America.

Veolia is responsible for operating and maintaining:

  • South Shore Water Reclamation Facility
  • Cedar Creek Water Reclamation Facility
  • Glen Cove Water Reclamation Facility
  • 3,000 miles of sewer pipe
  • 58 pump stations

These facilities and the collection network serve a population of more than 1.2 million and treat more than 115 million gallons of wastewater a day (MGD).

  • Nassau County will invest $400 million in wastewater infrastructure by 2025.
  • Veolia is helping restore waterways and overseeing the rebuild of the South Shore plant, both of which were severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
  • Veolia also provides education and community outreach in partnerships with local environmental groups.
